Job search consultant Kirsty Bonne shared shared a very important tips on how to answer the interview question, “Why do you want to leave your current job?”
To be honest with you, anyone could fail this question if you aren’t prepared for it. And it comes up during interview most especially when you’re applying for a senior position.
So…
“Why do you want to leave your current job?”
How might you answer? For the purpose of this post, this question assumes that you are currently in employment and looking to switch jobs, OR, that you voluntarily left your previous job.
Possible reasons that will project POSITIVITY: I am looking for a new career challenge.
I am looking for more responsibility. I would like a career change. I would like to relocate. I would like to learn new skills, or perfect a current skill. I need to improve my work/life equilibrium. Etc etc.
It is ADVISABLE not to discuss the negative aspects of your current or latest role. Never speak badly about an organization or senior individuals, as it does not speak well to your professionalism.
If you need to contrast the good vs. the bad, , simply emphasize the benefits of joining the new company.
Be FORWARD thinking. Like anything in Life, you can’t undo the past. You can, however, positively influence the future. Any tips to add to the discussion, please?
