The Government of the United Kingdom has updated the list of companies and organizations that are licensed to sponsor foreign workers on work visa into the U.K.
Table of Contents
At the time of reviewing this article, the updated list contains 100,158 organizations that can legitimately bring workers on the employment-based work visa route into the country.
The list was below 50,000 the first time of publishing it on InfomediaNG in October 2021.
What are A-rating companies in the UK?
A rating organizations are companies that are trusted and licensed by the UK government to recruit foreign workers. They are licensed because the government have trust in them that they will abide by the standard set by The Home Office.
Type of routes
The list is largely dominated by:
- Skilled worker
- Creative worker
- Senior or Specialist worker
- Ministers of religion
- Graduate trainee
- International sportsperson
- UK expansion worker
Skilled worker’s route, which is in high-demand in the UK, than other routes, caters for diverse categories of people including welder, carpenters, barbers, painters, truck drivers, hairdressers, construction workers, child care skill providers, lawyer, concrete finishers, registered nurses, machine operator etc.
Significance of the list
In recent time, some Nigerians and other foreign workers were stranded in the UK, they were lured into the UK by fake companies.
In December 2023, the Chief of Mission of International Organization for Migration (IOM), Mr Laurent De Boeck, disclosed that over 1000 Nigerians were stranded in the UK because they were given non-existing jobs and were stranded after landing in the UK.
He said they got to the respective organizations in the UK and then denied acceptance because the letters did not emanate from those organizations, even after losing as much as $10,000 each in their desperate attempts to secure foreign jobs.
To avoid falling victim of fake employment in the UK, you can quickly run a check on this list to ascertain the authenticity of such organizations.
There is a shortage of workers in the United Kingdom, especially for skilled workers, and some organisations are ready to spend on bringing in foreign workers through sponsorship visas to fill in solve their staff shortages.
For instance, gas stations across the UK ran out of gas, in September 2021, because there was a shortfall of truck drivers to deliver the products.
To urgently solve the problem, the government announced that at least 5,000 visas will be issued to foreign truck drivers as the country warms up for Christmas to avoid shortage during the yuletide season just as many organisations put out vacancies for temporary job workers to meet customers’ needs.

How To Use LinkedIn To Explore UK Companies That Can Sponsor Your Work Visa
LinkedIn holds millions of opportunities only if you know how to explore it. If you haven’t gotten a job on the professional before, here is a chance for you to get one and possibly land a UK job from Nigeria.
- Login to LinkedIn
- Copy the name of a specific company you’d like to work with on the A-Rating
- Search for the company
- Most times, they announce vacancies on their LinkedIn page
- See the positions they are advertising
- Submit your application
According to UK-based Nigerian Civil Engineer and an Investor Toyyib Adewale Adelodun, Nigerians and Africans who would be applying from their country of residence should explore LinkedIn to land job opportunities in the UK
“There are short and long term opportunities for work in the UK. A lot of industries have shortage. The challenge for Africans applying from home is finding an employer to sponsor their visa application. People have had a lot of success on LinkedIn lately.”
Dear Sir/Madam,
I would like to ask you to provide a Certificate of sponsorship (COS) letter to apply for a charity worker Visa myself. I am currently living in Bangladesh, and I am a community activist who has been working for the community for the last 15 years.
I think my experience would be a great asset to your company. I have worked on a project that has many processes like yours. I had a Poultry farm, in 2013 I achieved a poultry farm agricultural work training certificate. Also, I am holding a Kuwaiti driver’s license. My licence number is- 272080501882.
If I moved to a volunteer charity organisation, I would be able to use my experience from these projects and implement them. Generally, I think my skills working with clients in the volunteering sector helped me with building relationships with the community.
Therefore, I really want to come to Britain to continue my charity work and help others in your organisation.
If it is possible, could you please help me with the letter, I will really appreciate it. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely
Syed Zahir Ali

If you are a non-EU/EFTA national who wants to work in the UK, you will need a work permit the UK relating to the type of work that you are doing. Most of the UK work visas require sponsorships from a UK-based employer so you will need to have secured a suitable job and sponsorship before applying for the UK work visa. Check the list again. It’s advisable to first apply for the available job, when you get to the UK, you can find your way around it to find a job relating to your discipline.
