Summary: There is a shortage of workers in the United Kingdom, not just truck drivers, the crisis cuts across the board, meaning A-rating companies and organisations are ready to bring in foreign workers through sponsorship visas.
On September 28, 2021, gas stations across the United Kingdom ran out of gas. It wasn’t because there were not enough to go around, but because there was a shortfall of truck drivers to deliver the products.
To urgently solve the problem, the government announced that at least 5,000 visas will be issued to foreign truck drivers as the country warms up for Christmas so as to avoid shortage during the yuletide season just as many organisations put out vacancies for temporary job workers to meet customers’ needs.
The 5,000 official number announced by the Transportation Secretary, Grant Shapps, is even far lower than the number of truck drivers who would solve the crisis that stares the country on the face.
There is a shortage of 100,000 drivers, according to Director of Policy at the Road Haulage Association, Rod McKenzie, stating that “Ninety-five percent of everything we get in Britain comes on the back of a truck,” New York Times quoted him as saying.
According to an update by UK’s Home Office, 5,500 workers will also be issued visas to work as poultry workers or on farms.

Why UK Is Issuing Visas To Foreign Truck Drivers
The completion of the exit of Britain from the European Union (EU) in January 2021 is one of the factors that has caused a shortage of drivers, the implications that arise from Brexit are expected according to the New York Times because employers have been unable to freely recruit European workers.
What followed was the exit of an estimated 200,000 E.U. citizens during the pandemic.
Other factors include:
- Outbreak of coronavirus
- Disruptions in driver training caused by the pandemic
- Ageing workforce

What Is Expected Of You:

3) Only apply for jobs that qualify for a sponsorship certificate

Dear Sir/Madam,
I would like to ask you to provide a Certificate of sponsorship (COS) letter to apply for a charity worker Visa myself. I am currently living in Bangladesh, and I am a community activist who has been working for the community for the last 15 years.
I think my experience would be a great asset to your company. I have worked on a project that has many processes like yours. I had a Poultry farm, in 2013 I achieved a poultry farm agricultural work training certificate. Also, I am holding a Kuwaiti driver’s license. My licence number is- 272080501882.
If I moved to a volunteer charity organisation, I would be able to use my experience from these projects and implement them. Generally, I think my skills working with clients in the volunteering sector helped me with building relationships with the community.
Therefore, I really want to come to Britain to continue my charity work and help others in your organisation.
If it is possible, could you please help me with the letter, I will really appreciate it. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely
Syed Zahir Ali

If you are a non-EU/EFTA national who wants to work in the UK, you will need a work permit the UK relating to the type of work that you are doing. Most of the UK work visas require sponsorships from a UK-based employer so you will need to have secured a suitable job and sponsorship before applying for the UK work visa. Check the list again. It’s advisable to first apply for the available job, when you get to the UK, you can find your way around it to find a job relating to your discipline.
