Prof Richard Iyiola Akindele, a former lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, who was accused of sex-for-marks has been remanded in prison custody.

He was exposed by one of his female students Monica Osagie of demanding sex to pass her, the allegation generated heated debate which propelled OAU authority to constitute an investigative panel which found him guilty.

He was sacked.

While the sex-for-mark scandal seemed to have died, Prof. Akindele was arraigned on today, Monday, November 19 by the Independent Corrupt Practises and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

He was brought before Justice Maureen Onyetenu of a Federal High Court, Osogbo, on four counts bothering on alteration of age and demanding sex to pass her student, Monica Osagie.

Sex-for-mark is a common phenomenon in Nigerian higher institutions while only a few female students speak out about the abuse.

Similarly, another lecturer at the University of Lagos, Dr Boniface Igbeneghu has been indicted for a similar act in a documentary dubbed sexforgrades by an award-winning BBC.
