He has become a household name and his unflinching success cannot be undermined in the music industry.
He goes by the name Enitimi Alfred Odom born in the 80s and known by the stage name Timaya, he is a Nigerian singer and songwriter who has become consistent.
The Egberipapa 1of Bayelsa’s journey into the thriving music industry was not a smooth one. He was a back-up singer for Eedris Abdulkareem a former member of the defunct music group ‘The Remedies ‘before he decided to focus on his solo career. He began to record collaborations with fellow up-and-coming artistes and made his first cappearance in an unreleased music video by UDX.
Furthermore ,his passion to soar made him come in contact with producer Obaksolo in Mafoluku, Oshodi Lagos , who produced his first major hit record “Dem Mama”Describing the song in an interview posted on August 2013, the watabambam singer said: “Dem Mama” was an account of the 1999 destruction of Odi, a river side community in Niger Delta. Soldiers were hunting down militants they alleged killed eight policemen.
The village was burnt down and numerous people killed. I bravely tackled the issue years later and won instant street credibility for my boldness’ This song was a launch pad for him to carve a niche for himself in the very competitive music industry.
His debut album True Story was a tip of the iceberg and an incline of greater things to come from him. . His second album Gift and Grace was released in 2008.
The plantain boy singer gained further visibility, credibibilty and international acceptance through his third studio album De Rebirth—released in conjunction with Black Body Entertainment and indeed was a commercial success..
He collaborated with Dem Mama Soldiers on the album LLNP (Long Life N Prosperity). In 2012, Timaya released Upgrade, which spawned hits “Bum Bum” and he did a remix with a prominent global dancehall musician Sean Paul and on this album he also had hit songs like “Sexy Ladies”, and ‘Malonogede’ featuring Terry G.
Moreso, due to his consistency, the rewards for hard work began to come his way via awards such as the one he got in 2008: “Album of the Year” at Nigeria Music Awards and “Best Reggae/Dancehall album” at the Headies Awards. He also received two awards “Best Reggae/Dancehall album” for Gift and Grace and “Best Collaboration” for his feature on J Martins’ “Good or Bad (O Wey)” at the 2009 edition of The Headies.
His success in the music industry earned him a well deserved appointment in 2011, as he was appointed a Peace Ambassador by the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace (IIFWP).
Dr. Hak Ja Haan Moon, co-founder of the IIFWP, stated that he is “one of those individuals whose lives exemplify the ideal of living for the sake of others.
Timaya has contributed his own quota to the growth of the industry by bringing to limelight a talented musician and one of Nigeria’s best exports Patoranking who has also not reneged on making a positive impact.
In his sojourn in the music industry he has worked with great artistes like Tubaba,MI,Olamide, Flavour,Kefee,Phyno,Kcee, Duncan Mighty,JesseJagz, Twoshots,Jmartins to mention but a few .He has been referred to as the king of dancehall music in Nigeria because of his renditions and danceable songs which remain evergreen.
His unwavering exploits and achievements in the industry have spanned over a decade and he seems not to be resting on his oars as he keeps releasing hit making songs on a regular basis which has made him a delight of his fans .
He is blessed with two lovely daughters that he is often seen adoring and taking good care of on social media.
