The Igbo apex socio-cultural youth organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, has described as untrue the alleged killings of Northerners in the South.

A Northern organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum, had raised an alarm that Northerners were being killed in the Southern part of the country.

In a statement, the Secretary-General of the Igbo Youth organisation, Nnabuike Okwu, said, “The alleged harassment and killings of Northerners has been discovered to be baseless and there is no iota of truth in the claim.”

He described the statement by the ACF’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Yawe, that over 30 persons were killed in the Southern part of the country as an attempt to incite the violence against Southerners.

“The alleged harassment and killings of Northerners has been discovered to be baseless and there is no iota of truth in the claim.

“We urge Northern leaders to cross-check their facts on some of these security issues before going public. No sane Southerner can touch any Northerner, because we are one and we have lived peacefully among ourselves,” he said.

Okwu assured that Northerners are safe and doing their normal businesses without any form of intimidation or harassment in the South-East or South-South.
