Why I deleted my Opay Business Account

Advertisements

After several months of writing and pleading to Opay to let my merchant account bear my registered business name instead of my name without a solution, I have decided to shut my account with Opay because they were unable to handle the conversion after sending evidence of a business registration certificate and other documents they requested.

Each time I complained, they requested new evidence of business registration. This started in March 2023 and at the time of publication (Friday, May 31, 2024), the issue remains unresolved. The worst part, they are requesting new proof of business which they already have.

Before deleting your Opay account, you will be required to transfer out the funds in your account. Also, your account has to be inactive for 15 days, meaning there are no transactions on your account for at least 15 days

Before carrying out this, please note that once the account is closed, it can no longer be reactivated and you will be unable to create an account with the number associated with the closed account.

How to permanently delete your account on Opay

And here is how I permanently deleted my account on Opay

  • Login to the app
  • Click on the menu by the left-hand side
  • Click on “Settings”
  • Under “Account” click on “Close account”
  • And confirm your decision.

Unlink your debit card

Before deleting it, I ensured that the debit card linked to the account was removed, if you are planning to do the same the first thing to do is to remove the card linked to your Opay business account, here is:

  • Login to the app
  • Click on the menu by the left-hand side
  • Click on bank card/account, you will see the existing debit card stored on the app
  • Click on the recycling bin logo so that the card is not available for payment on your account
  • Click on “are sure you want to delete” to confirm your choice
