US Senator Grassley Opposes Transfer of N117 Billion Abacha Loot to Nigeria, FG reacts
Senior US Senator Chuck Grassley is trying to blocking the move by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to repatriate another batch of Abacha loot worth N117,440,000,000 ($320m) from New Jersey to Nigeria

Senator Chuck Grassley is blocking the repatriation of N117,440,000,000 laundered by the late Military Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, who ruled Nigeria from 1994 until his death on June 1998.
Considering the rate of human right abuses and how Nigeria’s government utilised the previous Abacha loot which were returned to Nigeria, Senator Grassley told the US Department of Justice to block the return.
Grassley is believed to be one of the confidants and political ally of President Donald Trump.

The senior is questioning the reason for considering the return when it was obviously clear that the money would be mismanaged or shared among corrupt politicians.
The senator specifically made reference to Abacha loot Nigeria is expecting from the United Kingdom which the Buhari’s led government is planning to pay a certain percentage of the money to the former Investment Adviser to the late despot and now a governor in Kebbi State, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu.
Grassley described the Kebbi State governor as one of the fronts Abacha used to siphon millions of oil money to foreign accounts.
In a letter dated April 1, 2020, according to The Punch, which was addressed to Deborah Connor, Chief Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section of the US Department of Justice, Grassley made reference to a Bloomberg report which exposed Nigeria’s arrangement with Bagudu.
UK, US to block Buhari’s plan to pay N40 billion to Bagudu
The United Kingdom has joined the United States of America in blocking the Nigerian authority from paying over N40 billion ($110 million) from funds recovered from the Late Despot Genera Sani Abacha to a Northern APC Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.
Bagudu, governor of Kebbi State, was an Investment Adviser to the Late Dictator until Abacha’s death in 1998.
If converted to naira, the money investment portfolio is worth N40,370,000,000 at N367 exchange rate.
A report by Bloomberg, said while the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is ready to implement an agreement entered into between Federal Government and Bagudu, it’s gathered that authorities in the UK and USA were not in support of what has been described as seemingly dubious agreement.
It was reported that the portfolios worth 141 million euros ($155 million) linked to Abacha and held in trust for Bagudu and his family.

WAEC English Marking Scheme (How SSCE Essays Are Marked)

Analysis of JAMB Cutoff Mark: Is It Guaranty for Admission?
There are lots of misconceptions about cut off mark set by the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) every year, which has been causing controversy.
The most controversial JAMB cutoff mark in recent time is the 2017/2018 which was set at 120 marks for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Here is the analysis of JAMB cutoff mark whether the candidate scores 200, 300, 350, even more, irrespective of cutoff marks set by JAMB, department and the institution chosen by the candidate determines the application status of such student.
Example 1:
Let’s assume JAMB cutoff mark is 200, and a prospective law student, who chose University of Ilorin as his first choice scores 250.
The fact that he scored above the JAMB cutoff mark isn’t a guaranty that he’ll secure admission at UNILORIN, if the scores of other candidates that are aspiring to study the same course are far higher than his.
In this case, assuming UNILORIN only has 60 spaces for law and more than 80 candidates already score 270marks and above, this means that the a candidate who scores below 270, even scoring above 200 JAMB score off mark, will be disadvantaged because of the competitive nature of the department.
However, this doesn’t mean that your mark for the year would be wasted. Some other universities in the open market may offer you admission. Most often most of the tertiary institutions offering unsolicited admission in Nigeria are recognized privately-owned institutions.
So it’s advisable that candidate familiarizes himself with the institution’s school fees. School fee is one of the major reasons admission into the private universities are rejected, unless the candidate is financially buoyant.
Example 2:
Conversely, if JAMB cutoff mark is set at 200, and the highest score by candidate who wants to study Petroleum Engineering at the University of Lagos is 150, this means that UNILAG would bring so many admission criteria into play, if the same, say, more than 200 candidates score 150 marks in the UTME, while the department has provision for only 170 candidates.
So the cutoff mark set by JAMB could be debatable, but candidates must understand that the fact that they scored above JAMB cutoff mark is a qualification, not a guarantee that they would be offered provisional admission by their preferred university.
The above analysis applies to other scores.

Is Tstv still active?
After its launch in 2017, it faced some challenges and went under, but on September 29, 2020, the CEO said the PayTV is making a come back by October 1, 2020
Bright Echefu promised that it’d be launching Pay-Per-View model in Nigeria as DsTV does in South Africa.
He said Telecomm Satellite TV (TStv), would be the first to implement the pay-per-view model with over 100 channels that will be made available for as low as N2 per day and as high as N5 for a channel.
“We are going to be the first to implement pay-per-view. What TSTV has done is, allow you to create your own bouquet and you have channels that are as low as N2 per day,” Echefu said.
What does the pay-per-view mean for Nigerians?
According to TSTV CEO, “If you have a N50 voucher, you are actually watching TV and saving your money”, saying TSTV has much high definition (HD) channels than other competitors in the market.
He was quoted by TheCable as saying, “Nobody has as much HD channels as we do. We are rolling out with about 108 channels. We are going to be the first in sub-Saharan Africa to implement H.265”.
How does it plan to achieve Pay Per View?
Pay per view isn’t a miracle from heaven, it is possible, DSTv which a South African PayTV offers the same service to its South African customers, unfortunately, it said the same service isn’t possible in Nigeria.
TStv which is owned by a Nigerian says it is possible saying, “Telecomm Satellite TV has invested a lot in acquiring rights. Most channels are as low as N5 per day. As a gift to Nigerians, we are releasing one of our sports channels free for a year.”
According to him, La Liga would be free but viewers would have to pay to view other football leagues while 18 states would be activated once they roll out their services on October 1, 2020.
…Seeks NBC support
While warming up for a re launch, Bright Echefu seeks the support of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
Reacting, the Acting Director-General of NBC, Armstrong Idachaba, said, “We promise on our side that we will continue to support you.”
During launch in 2017, TStv founder Echefu had said that TStv Africa was birth to liberalise PayTV in the Nigeria in order to make it affordable to every Nigerian with added values.

Like a joke, coronavirus was first discovered in a Chinese city of Wuhan? According to report, the virus came from animals, most especially who shopped in the Huanan seafood wholesale market in China.
A lot of irritating food and animals the Chinese people consume have been shared social media and online platforms suggesting that the CVID may have been contracted from such food.
According to report from Geneva, over 10 countries detected the deadly virus cases in the past 24 hours. It’s spreading so FAST!
Why did it spread so fast across the World?
Social media is gagged in China, there is state control of information that goes out. As such, when the virus was first discovered, it was learnt that the Chinese government prevented anyone from making it public or from reporting it to the outside world.
China thought it was something it could find a solution to in time because the government realised that it was getting out before the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced it as a global epidemic.
China thought it could curtail its spread.
Right now, Director-General of WHO Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus alerted all countries to gear up themselves for potential pandemic.
He was quoted by aljazeera.com as saying, “This virus has pandemic potential.”

North launches own security outfit ‘SHEGE KA FASA’
“SHEGE KA FASA” is similar to Operation Amotekun which was launched by the six governours of the South-West geopolitical zone as a result of worsening security in the region. It generated controversies.
Addressing a press conference shortly before unveiling the outfit, CNG emphasised that for the past 12 years, the North has struggled with disabling challenges that include dwindling economy, rising poverty and more worrying, a crippling security situation that has taken a huge toll on lives, property and the overall cohesion of the region.
The spokesperson of the group, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman who addressed the press before the unveiling said that the.security challenges manifested in 2008 in the form of a deadly insurgency from the Northeast and within a short time, spread to other parts of the region and virtually turned the entire region into a battlefield.
The Coalition noted that while the insurgency raged, other disturbances were created in the region in the form of cattle rustling that pitched northern communities against each other.
“A new dimension was introduced to the farmers/herders conflict which gradually deteriorated into an uncontrollable proportion and deepened the artificial rift between communities in the region.
“This trend suddenly metamorphosed into deadly armed banditry and kidnapping for ransom which is recycled for arms and drugs. This is in addition to another frustrating trend of the theft and forced trafficking in northern children to other parts of the country for reasons that are largely dubious.
“The culmination of these security challenges has for the past decade turned the entire region into a house of horror with violent killings reported on a daily basis, communities displaced with formal and informal IDP camps spreading across the region.
“The situation today, on most northern highways, innocent travelers are waylaid, robbed and abducted, towns and villages attacked and sacked by bandits who have created an atmosphere of palpable fear across the region.
“As the situation grows more desperate by the day with the North as the most porous and vulnerable, with northerners as the most distressed and estranged.
CNG stressed that it is absolutely impossible to expect that communities would continue to fold their arms while criminals invade their abodes, kill, abduct and displace them.
“By this, today we unveil the symbols for the Shege Ka Fasa outfit which would be formally inaugutated in the coming few weeks when all necessary legal processes might have been completed or formally adopted and ratified by the northern states governors.” It stated.
CNG, therefore, observed that, there is an apparent correlation between the current security situation and the unchecked proliferation of hard drugs and other dangerous substances and that the current security challenges in the region are therefore driven by the proliferation of firearms and hard drugs which are deliberately introduced into the region by outside interests.
It also observed that the drug and firearms trade is fueled by illegal funds channelled by international financial criminals such as Yahoo boys desperate to launder money into the country and that already, this trend has completely undermined the economic and social fabrics of the North, and is responsible for the rampant social problems like banditry, armed robbery, kidnapping, and other forms of security challenges witnessed today.
The Federal Government was yet to react to it at the time of compiling this report.
BREAKING: How Police kill 250 suspected terrorists in Kaduna
The daring operation in Kuduru woodlands, in the besieged Birnin Gwari area, came on Wednesday morning, lasting for several hours, Force PRO Frank Mba said in a statement.
Mr Mba said the 250 people killed were “high-profile members” of the outlawed Ansaru terrorist group. The group reportedly contained elements that have been terrorising citizens through relentless kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes across central Nigeria.
It was gathered the police did not lose any personnel during the operation, which he said was unprecedented for any security agency in the country due to the vast brain and manpower that was deployed in its planning.
“Absolutely not,” Mr Mba said repeatedly. “No security force in Nigeria has attended what we did. It was a very thorough and unprecedented operation.”
Mr Mba said the police have other similar raids planned across the country, and would not be “stampeded out” of proceeding with them, no matter the fallout.
Kuduru forest has long been a dreaded enclave of criminal gangs, with security agencies long suspecting that most of the deadly attacks in Birnin Gwari axis were carried out by elements that used the forest as a hideout.
It was unclear whether the police acted on a tip-off to launch the attack, and whether officers could tell for sure that all the 250 people killed were terrorists. Even though the police said they were all “high profile” terror suspects, no names were immediately released of the casualties.
The operation was carried out by a host of tactical police units, including the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Special Forces, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Special Tactical Squad (STS) and Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
Two officers manning a police helicopter that was used in the operation were injured, but had been receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The operation came a few days Nigerians and some members of the National Assembly called on security chiefs to resign or be sacked as a result of the worsening situation in the country.
