The entertainment industry in Nigeria is not doubt a force to reckon with globally. It has grown in leaps and bounds in music, film, comedy, fashion  to mention but a few. One very important aspect of this industry is  Disc Jockeying .

This at a time was dominated and pioneered by creative Djs such as the Ace entertainer Dj Jimmy Jatt, Dj Humility,Dj Neptune, Dj Spinall to mention but a few.

However, in this thriving industry the field is big enough for everyone to thrive and accommodating too. This paved the way for female Djs to come on board and bring to fore their creative prowess and contribute their quota to the continuous growth and development of this blossoming entertainment industry.

One of such assets to the world of female  Djs in Nigeria is Dj Cuppy and the searchlight is beamed on her in this lovely piece.

DJ Cuppy real name is…

DJ Cuppy born Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola,daughter of business tycoon and billionaire Femi Otedola.Cuppy  is a musician and entrepreneur. She was born in Lagos, Nigeria in 1992. She lived in Ilupeju for six years before moving to Ikeja.

She then moved to London for her GCSE’s and A-Levels. Cuppy graduated from King’s College London in July 2014 with a degree in Business and Economics. She also graduated from New York University having completed her Master’s Degree in Music Business, and now lives in London.

Cuppy’s musical endeavors began when she was quite young. By the time she turned 18, whilst attaining a BSc Economics at Kings College London, she was already producing her own tracks and DJing around the world. To this date, Cuppy’s DJ skills have taken her to over 25 countries and she continues to.

Career in Disc Jockey

In 2014, Cuppy released her first compilation House of Cuppy, which saw her pioneer a fresh new sound she dubbed “Neo-Afrobeats” -an electric blend of Tropical House and Afrobeats music.

The compilation was launched successfully in London, New York and Lagos, and the following year was succeeded by an 8-country tour, Cuppy Takes Africa, now a TV show on FOX. She has worked with top Nigerian music artistes like Tekno,Naeto C,MasterKraft and a host of other talented artistes.

Having been featured by the likes of Forbes, Vogue, and the Financial Times, Cuppy has worked with some of the biggest and most exciting international organizations.

Jumpstarting her US invasion in 2015 with an internship at Roc Nation, she performed at SXSW Festival and starred as the resident DJ on MTV’s ‘Uncommon Sense’ Show; all whilst attaining a Masters in Music at New York University.

In January 2015, Cuppy was featured on the cover of the Guardian Life to celebrate a new generation of African women.

In March 2015, Cuppy was named the official DJ for the 2015 Oil Barons Charity in Dubai, and became the first African act to have ever performed at the event. She was featured in the 2015 April/May issue of Forbes Woman Africa.

The multi award winner is also a philanthropist as she offers scholarships to students as a means of encouraging them to value education. Knowing full well how education has helped he career soar in the world of entertainment.
