As the Federal Government announced on Wednesday that plans are underway to employ 75, 000 agric extension workers, the first set of people that comes to mind is the 2016 first batch of N-Power Agro beneficiaries.
Most of them had been working as agric extension workers in their state while some of them already have their own farms, most especially in the northern parts and some states across the country.
According to the government, the cardinal responsibility of the 75,000 agricultural extension workers would be “to motivate farmers in the production of agro commodities.”
Also, on Wednesday, the APC-led government inaugurated the National Fish Association of Nigeria.
The aim of the fish association is to boost domestic fish production following the closure of Nigeria’s borders to fish imports.
The Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mustapha Shehuri, made it known in Maiduguri, Borno State, during his tour of facilities of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the North-East.
Mr Shehuri stated that the FMARD was determined to proffer solutions to all the challenges in the agricultural sector based on the mandate it received from the President.
The minister noted that despite all the security challenges, the good time was returning gradually.
Shehuri also stated that agriculture had engaged over 60 per cent of Nigerian youths.
We hope that the federal government look inward regarding the planned employment of 75,000 agric extension workers across the country.
The plan is coming at a time, the National Social Investment Programme is planning to disengage the N-Power 2016 batch.
Will this be a succour for the N-Power Agro of the youth empowerment programme?
