  • Daniel Oluwatobi was a victim of election violence
  • He was attacked in Yobe State

Daniel Oluwatobi, a former member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been offered an employment letter by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He was one of the victims of the 2011 general elections in the North and other parts of the country.

Recalled that some officials of INEC were attacked while trying to perform their electoral duties in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019. One of them is Daniel Oluwatobi, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the time.

Daniel Oluwatobi, who is now an ex-corps member, lost his sight while serving as INEC ad-hoc staff in Yobe during the 2011 general elections. He was celebrated by INEC via its Twitter handle on Thursday.

Nigerians react, blast INEC

Meanwhile the gesture of INEC has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians.

Some of them condemned the action of INEC for honouring Oluwatobi with a job after losing his sight.

See some of them below:

@charles_ifaco: Loose ur sight and get appointment letter in change

@ojo_duke: This happened 3 years ago. Why this handle telling us now? Or was it a missing information you found on the shelf? Or are you rather overwhelmed by the level of heartbreaks you caused Nigerians that you are fathoming ways to make us happy? This year you failed more courses.

@ojo_duke: Good memories to you. Tell that to the countless nos of people who lost their lives in this year’s sham polls. My dear, how many tweets from this handle have honored the memories of the innumerable deads?

@OfficialDanley: The ones that did not loose there site and that worked hard, can’t they get job too? Nonsense.

@Jamyk8: So you remembered him because he lost his sight in that course, if not, he will still be jobless like many out there. Oya Corp members it’s time to lose something for Nigeria so you’ll be remembered for something

@_iam_manuel: Let’s appreciate the fact that he was helped and stop all these bad-talks. What’s ever gonna satisfy Nigerians ?

@trinzini: Daily lots of people put their lives at stake to serve a course that they are made to believe is genuine. Some make it alive, others loose a part of them. If they can still smile for the camera for reuse then they are called hero. If they can’t, even in death they are losers

@Proffdam: So you’re not a hero until you loose your eyes??? What happened to treating corpers right and providing security? What happened to paying them well and taking care of their welfare during elections? But no! They won’t be celebrated till they loose their sight. What a settlement!

@kuppylee: 2011 he lost his sight and you gave him job 2016 right? So now to get job in inec aside buying of slots, you have to lose your sight while working for them and wait for 5 years. … Una well done oh .
