One Chiadikobi Ezeibekwe has married his own 17-year old sister in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, claiming he heard the voice of God.
The man, a mathematics teacher, was said to have quoted a bible verse to justify his action when he was confronted while he had to marry one of his siblings.
He specifically quoted one of the verses in Deuteronomy, “One advantage of doing this is that it discourages divorce. It also retains family values and norms,” The Punch reports.
It was gathered that the union took place at Dwelling Fullness of God Church, Agba, and presided over by one of Chiadikobi’s elder brothers, Chijioke Ezeibekwe, who is a priest at the church.
Irate Youth set church ablaze after marriage
We can’t independently confirm the caliber of people that attended the wedding of the two siblings, or whether it was publicised before the D-day, but it was gathered that youths in the community stormed the church after the wedding ceremony and set it ablaze.
The groom, who feels no guilt, said he paid no bride price to anyone, “I don’t feel guilty. I don’t feel ashamed. I don’t feel intimidated in any way. Only god can stop us,” The Punch quoted him as saying.
The youths, who set the church ablaze, said it’s an abomination.
“I retrained them from further action against the man and his family. If it were in the past, the entire family would be burnt down because this is a grave abomination and sin,” the traditional prime minister of Ekwulobia, Gabriel Ezeukwu said.
It’s not clear where the couple went after their union, and how the priest of the church escaped when the church was set ablaze.
Will the groom Chiadikobi Ezeibekwe go to school in the weeks ahead without being lynched by the community youths?
We will continue to update you.
