Ekiti 2018: Fayose says Fayemi will suffer the worst defeat of his political career

Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has told Dr. Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressive Congress (APC) that he’d “suffer the worst defeat of his political career” in the July 14 Governorship Election in the state.

Chief Press Secretary to the governor , Idowu Adelusi, in a statement made the position of governor known, boasting that Fayemi should be ready to accept defeat again.

It’d be recalled that Fayose of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeated Fayemi, who was the reigning governor in 2014.

“In 2014 when he was the sitting governor and I was not in power , I trounced him mercilessly . I gave him 16 – 0, defeating him in all the local governments , including in his home town . He did not win a single local government .

“Now , I have been in power for more than three years and have served the people of Ekiti well . My legacy projects are there to speak for me, and for my party – the Peoples Democratic Party – as well as for our candidate in the July 14 governorship election, Prof. Kolapo Olusola.

“Fayemi will suffer the worst defeat of his political career. After the July 14 election , he will go into political oblivion.

“He has nothing to celebrate because of the electoral disaster awaiting him . The manner of his so-called victory also leaves much to be desired as it has turned many of their party leaders and followers against him, ” he said.

Fayemi (APC) won his party’s primary May 12 after a failed primary election a week earlier in Ado Ekiti.

But Fayose, who is deploying all resources to support his deputy Prof. Kolapo Eleka Olusola, boastfully told Fayemi that the closest he (Fayemi) could get to government house was winning his party’s primary.

“I thank the APC for giving Ekiti people a candidate they love to vote against at all times . Fayemi should not celebrate this pyrrhic victory yet because it is nothing but a flame that will be quenched on July 14,” he tweeted @GovAyoFayose.

Meanwhile, Fayemi has called on his supporters to respect other aspirants who contested against him in the primary.

He said , “ If you really want us to succeed in the quest to form the next government in the state , I urge you all not to carry over pre-primary hostilities in your relationship with my co -contestants and their supporters .

“ We are one big family. We cannot all win in an election . But one thing I know is that all the contestants are eminent Ekiti sons and daughters who are qualified to govern the state better than the present occupier of the office .”

Though there are other parties that will be presenting candidates in the July 14 Governorship Election in Ekiti, but since return of Nigeria to democracy in 1999, two major political parties have been exchanging political baton in the state.

It started from Alliance for Democracy (AD), over 80% of who formed APC, then to PDP, then to APC, from which PDP took over again.

The victory is between APC and PDP, but PDP has brighter chance of winning the election.
