Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the February 2019 General Elections in Nigeria Alhaji Abubakar Atiku said corruption is Nigeria’s major problem.
Atiku while unveiling his political master plan for next year’s election said he has the capacity to empower the anti-graft agency to tackle the menace.
He made the statement at the official launching of his campaign and his plan titled “My plan to get Nigeria working again“.
“Corruption is one of the major problems Nigeria is grappling with. It poses critical challenges to the economic and social development of the country.
Corruption not only diverts resources from legitimate causes, beneficial to the society at large, but denies millions of people their fundamental freedoms and human rights.
The challenges posed by systemic corruption contribute to the perpetuation of poverty and the hindering of economic opportunities, said.
He said past Nigerian government had not done enough to fighting corruption even though they set up anti corruption agencies like EFCC, ICPC, Code of Conduct Bureau and Court of Conduct Tribunals to investigate and prosecute corrupt officials in courts of law, “very little has been achieved in terms of stemming the epidemic.”
With 186 pages, the downloadable Atiku Abubakar 2019 Policy Document covers several areas which he called his priorities if he is elected Nigerian president in the 2019 presidential election.
