Oba Saheed Elegushi has sent a powerful message to President Muhammadu Buhari, saying Nigerians must’t be taken for granted as journeys towards his second term in office.
The Lagos monarch, who is the Elegushi of Ikate Kingdom, said this through his congratulatory message to Buhari.
Buhari defeated Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and was given certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Oba Saheed Elegushi, in a statement by his Public Affairs Assistant, Tope Oyefeso, and obtained by InfomediaNG, the monarch said Buhari had received the support of the majority of Nigerians to continue his work.
“With over 15 million Nigerians who voted for the President, I think one can conclude that the voters believe in him and his government. I am confident he will do more for Nigerians in the years ahead and things will get better for the country.”
But Elegushi urged Buhari not to take Nigerians for granted.
Nigerians support mustn’t be taken for granted
Speaking on the support of Nigerians to Buhari at the polls, the Oba said “I want to advise the President not to take the overwhelming victory for granted. The well-being of all Nigerians must remain paramount. The President and his team should ensure that peace return to the troubled areas so that we can have a country we are proud of.”
The monarch also gave kudos to electoral umpire for a successful conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Elegushi also urged INEC to ensure that the forthcoming governorship and state House of Assembly elections were free, fair and credible.
Oba Elegushi is one of the popular kings in Lagos who ususally receives the praises of Nigerian hip-song artiste Olamido.
