A business mogul in Saudi Arabia has been arrested by Saudi authorities for attempting to bribe a civil servant with a sum of 75-million-riyal, amounting to N7, 250, 119, 715.25.
The arrest of the powerful businessman is the latest in Saudi’s policy to clampdown on corruption in the country, reported Gulf News.
It was gathered that the businessman was arrested after his arrival at the Jeddah airport in western Saudi Arabia from abroad on a prosecution order.
The huge bribe was aimed at getting a soft landing for him to get approval illegally for a real-estate deal worth 900 million riyals (N87, 001, 436, 583.00).
It was also gathered that the businessman was found to have been previously convicted in bribery and forgery cases.
His prosecutor demanded the maximum penalty against him in view of his criminal record, the paper said.

Dozens of royals and ex-officials were rounded up and held for months in an anti-graft swoop in 2017.
In Mid-November, 2019, Saudi court sentenced 18 people to varying jail terms in different corruption cases, the official Saudi news agency SPA reported.
Some of the successes recorded in recent times in fight against bribery and corruption cases including government officials were charged with bribery, forgery and power abuse.
The name of the corrupt businessman in recent clampdown was not made public.
