On April 6, 2020, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari promised that 1000 Nigerians would be employed from each of the 774 local government areas in Nigeria, meaning 774,000 Nigerians will be employed across the country.

On May 28, 2020, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment Mr Festus Keyamo in a statement stated the plans have been put in place to begin the recruitment of 774,000 Nigerians into the programme.
