History – The first Grammy Award winner to be stripped of the award

Milli Vanilli was a German R&B duo from Munich.

The group was founded by Frank Farian ( Music Producer) in 1988 and consisted of Fabrice Morvan (French National) and Rob Pilatus (German National).

They achieved international success with their debut album “Girl You Know It’s True” and earned them a Grammy Award for Best New Artiste on 21st February, 1990.

Milli Vanilli became known and popular pop acts all over the world in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

They were exposed as lip-syncing frauds during a live performance on MTV. Fabrice Morvan, Rob Pilatus and their agent Sergio Vendero confessed that Morvan and Pilatus did not actually sing any of the vocals heard on the record / album.

They organized a press briefing and decided to return the Grammy awards and they said the award should be given to the real vocalists.

The group recorded a comeback album in 1998, but Rob Pilatus died before the album was released, while Fabrice Morvan went on as a solo artiste, Radio and Club DJ.
