Fayemi tops twitter trend as he wins Ekiti 2018 Governorship Election

The winner of the July 14, 2018 Governorship Election in Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi is right now the most used hashtag on twitter (9:33AM, July 15).

“That John OluKayode Fayemi of APC having fulfilled requirements of the law and got the highest votes is the winner and is returned elected,’’ Prof. Idowu Olayinka announced.

According to an official result released by INEC early today, Fayemi beat his closest rival Olusola Eleka of People’s Democratic Party.

Even though both major political parties lured electorates with cash, APC was said to have deployed more monies to win the tension hightened election.

According to INEC, Kayode Fayemi defeated his STRONGEST rival Prof. Kolapo Olusola in 12 out of 16 Local Government Areas in the state.

Fayemi polled 197,459 while Olusola scored 178,114 votes.


Meanwhile, congratulatory messages have started pouring in to the new governor-elect, Kayose Fayemi on twitter.

@elnathan_john tweeted, “Awwwww. I am so glad the Ekiti people did what was right and rejected the stingy bastards in PDP. I congratulate Fayemi and APC for raising the stakes and refusing to accept that people can be bought with 3,000 naira. Thank you Fayemi and APC for elevating votes to 5,000 naira”

PDP is yet to react to the outcome of the election at the time filing this report, but the opposition party has acussed APC of vote buying as well.

Earlier, Governor Ayodele Fayose stormed the Ekiti State Broadcasting Service to declare his deputy, who is also the PDP flagbearer the winner of the election.

The announcement led to the closure of the state owned broadcasting stations by the Nigerian broadcasting regulatory body, NBC.
