Meet Lagos Lawmaker Mojisola Alli-Macauley, Who Said Nigeria’s Unemployment Shouldn’t Be Reason For Protest

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mojisola Alli-Macaulay is under fire for saying most Nigerian youths act under the influence of drugs, “they are high drugs all the time” she said.

Not only that, the lawmaker who is representing Amuwo Odofin constituency 1 of Lagos State also said unemployment in Nigeria should not be an excuse for the youths to turn themselves to hoodlums.

Alli-Macaulay stated this while making contributions on the floor of Lagos Assembly on the destruction, looting, maiming, and killing that characterised the peaceful #EndsSars protest that was hijacked by hoodlums.

She said, “It is not unemployment that should be the bane or the reason why youth would come out and begin to misbehave.

Unemployment Peculiar To Nigeria, It’s A Global Problem

According to her, unemployment should not be an excuse for the youth to cause problem, “There is unemployment in so many countries of the World, even in the United States.

“I schooled in the UK and I saw a lot of young people who were not employed, but they didn’t become hoodlums.

She advised the youth to channel their talent to skills that will make them gain financial freedom.

“Why can’t we look inwards and look for solutions to our problems. Why can’t the young people look within themselves? Look for their talent.

“Even as a graduate, what stops you from becoming a designer or professional tiler and make a brand of it,” she said.

Time for NOA to educate Nigerian Youths

Mojisola Alli-Macauley charged FG’s National Orientation Agency (NOA) to step in changing the attitude of the youths.

“The National Orientation Agency needs to get to work. We need to begin to orientate our young people. They need people who can talk to them from time to time. They go to social media and say all sorts of things.”

A few hours after her comment, the social media went agog that the female lawmaker, just like some of her counterparts, hoarded COVID-19 palliatives which she repackaged as birthday gifts to some members of her constituents, reported Sahara Reporters

#EndSars protest was launched to end police brutality and extrajudicial killings, end to bad governance and an end to impunity among the political class.

Hoodlums and some residents later hijacked the protest, they broke into warehouses where COVID-19 items were kept and looted them.

The loot began in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial city before spreading to Osun, Kwara, Plateau, Adamawa, Cross River and other states across the country.

International organisations, human rights activists within and outside Nigeria blamed the government for hoarding for was meant for the most vulnerable masses during the pandemic.

Unfortunately, Alli-Macauley was allegedly caught in the act and was exposed as a swift response for what they described as her “inhumane” response to police brutality and poor governance in Nigeria.

She was accused of hijacking some of the COVID-19 items for personal use.

In several photos posted on the social media for being one of the beneficiaries of the hoarded palliatives, the package distributed by the lawmaker contained foodstuffs – noodles and garri – part of what was meant to be shared to poor and vulnerable Nigerians as relief during the lockdown.

Nigerians condemned her, saying she lacked the moral right to call them drug addicts after diverting palliatives as a birthday gift.

Who Is Mojisola Alli-Macauley?

Date of birth

Alli-Macauley was born on October 10, 1977, at Lagos Island, Lagos State. She attended Festac Primary School for her leaving school certificate from 1984 to 1990 after leaving Subola Nursery And Primary School Festac Town from 1982-1984.

From there, she proceeded to Festac Girls’ Secondary School from 1990-1993 and completed her SSCE at Navy Town Secondary School from 1993-1995.

Other qualifications

From 2002 to 2003, she was at the Open University Milton Keynes where she bagged Diploma in Social Science.

Alli-Macauley enrolled for a law course at Lagos State University in 2015, hoping to bag LL.B upon completion.

Working Experience

She joining active politics, Mojisola Alli-Macauley was a Newscaster, Presenter On MITV/Star Fm.

Marketing Manager at D.R. Marketing & Communications. She was a former Duty Announcer at Radio Lagos/Eko Fm 89.75.

She later became the Senior Marketing Executive, Presenter And Producer at the Continental Broadcasting Service (TVC/RC), a station that was also vandalised by hoodlums during the protest.

Alli-Macauley’s Political Career

In 2019, she formally become declared her intention for Amuwo-Odofin 1 Constituency in Lagos State House of Assembly elections and won under the ruling All Progressive Congress.

Before migrating to the Lagos Assembly, she was a COUNCILLOR, WARD B1 between 2010 to 2013, where she was Deputy Leader, Amuwo Odofin Legislative Council, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area
