Is there any embezzlement or fraud going on in your organisation which you want to put an end to? Writing a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is the best action you can take to save the situation. We’ll also share with you the branch offices of EFCC across Nigeria.
In this post, we will guide you on how to submit a petition to EFCC.
We’ll also highlight some of the important things you need to put into consideration before filing and sending your petition to the anti-graft agency. We’ll also come up with a sample of a petition to the EFCC.
You wan to be one of the whistleblowers of EFCC, read on as this post contains everything you need to know on how to write a petition to an anti-graft agency in Nigeria.
What does EFCC do?
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is Nigeria’s most fearful anti-graft agency by online criminals, corrupt politicians because it is empowered by an Act to: prosecute, investigate, and charge to court anyone who involved himself in fraudulent activities or someone who has questions to answer in relation to financial impropriety.
Some of its duties include:
The Act establishing EFCC mandates it to combat financial and economic crimes.
It is also empowered to investigate financial fraud
It is empowered to to prosecute financial crimes
EFCC can also penalise economic and financial crimes.
Some of the Acts legalising the duties of EFCC as listed above include
EFCC Act 2004
The Money Laundering Act 1995
The Money Laundering (Prohibition) act 2004
The Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 1995
The Failed Banks (Recovery of Debts) and Financial Malpractices in Banks Act 1994
The Banks and other Financial Institutions Act 1991; and
Miscellaneous Offences Act
Who you can petition
You can blow the whistle to EFCC if you know any politician in your LG, State, or at the FG level who has embezzled or involved in financial fraud provided you have stronger evidence.
Head of institutions (colleges of education, polytechnic, university) can be investigated if he has mismanaged the institution’s funds
Head of your community can be investigated
You can file a petition to the EFCC if you know any online fraudsters in your neighbourhood.
You can also file a petition or blow the whistle against any official of the anti-graft agency who misrepresented the agency by reporting to a special office dedicated to handling such cases, in this case you need to have most of the strongest evidence so that such petition doesn’t bounce on you the writer.
You can also blow the whistle to EFCC if you know someone who has been impersonating the agency to dupe the general public.
Simply put, what we’re saying here is that anyone can be investigated by the EFCC in as much is a financial crime.
I’m sure you won’t be reporting a case of stealing of phone or car to EFCC, please note that police is empowered to handle cases relating to stealing.
Points to consider in your petition to EFCC
One thing about petition is that it has helped to correct some anomalies in the society. So, crafting and submitting a petition to the EFCC isn’t just enough. Here are the points to guide you before proceeding on submitting a petition

You’ve found your desired product: Is it mobile phone, home appliances, Ladies’ wears, T-shirt?. It’s very important for you to check reviews of buyers who earlier bought the same product.
It’s very important!
The photos of the product you are seeing online might not actually reflect its real and physical look. To check if you’re buying the right product, check reviews of the product.
There are some buyers who would come back to drop their reviews about the product.
Product review is particularly peculiar to products listed on AliExpress, Amazon and other global online stores.
Online shopping factor No. 2: Returns and Cancellation Policies
If you think price or cost should come next, we don’t believe so going the research conducted by Granify, which says that return policy is the most important decision-making factor for online shoppers of clothing and apparel.
The study found that in many retail categories, a strong return policy and positive customer reviews are more important to customers than price.

How would you feel if after ordering a pair of shoes online and later found out it isn’t your size?
